Social Responsibility

├ ISO 26000

├ SMETA Sedex

TÜV NORD is engaged in many ways to raise awareness of social responsibility and employee well-being. We are promoters of social certification schemes. TÜV NORD is accredited in several such schemes.

Companies that want to be certified/pass the audit in these schemes, find in us a competent partner who can advise them on the choice and direct them to the necessary certification.

Today's consumer is interested in how raw materials are extracted and processed, how goods are produced and distributed. Meanwhile, the consumer is always looking for more and more information about how companies protect human rights, how people at a young age are protected, how the rights of people with limited abilities are protected.

Customers are keen to know how companies maximize opportunities to renew, reuse and recycle used products throughout the supply chain.

All operational decisions in the organization contribute to social and environmental impacts on our planet. Thus, ethical and transparent business operations of an organization/company will contribute towards social welfare. Organizations must try hard to communicate to the public the working conditions, health and safety, the gender gap, employee compensation (workforce) and energy and environmental performance for all interested parties.

All the above evaluations can form an important part of the consumer's decision to purchase the company's product.

※ SMETA Sedex

WHAT IS Sedex SMETA CERTIFICATION?

Sedex is one of the leading providers of Ethical Trade services in the world, working to improve working conditions in global supply chains. Provides ways, services and a community network to help companies improve their responsible and sustainable business practices, and create responsible and sustainable sourcing and supplies.

Sedex has turned the Ethical Audit of Sedex Members (SMETA) into an audit methodology for ethical trade.

WHAT IS A SMETA AUDIT?

The Sedex Trade Ethical Audit (SMETA) is a control methodology. It provides an overview of ethical auditing techniques and best practices to help auditors perform high-quality audits that encompass all aspects of responsible business practice, covering the four pillars;

A- Labor,

B- Health and Safety,

C- Environment and

D- Business ethics.

WHY IS SMETA IMPORTANT?

By using SMETA, companies can identify good practices in terms of employment. SMETA audit offers advantages in the market such as:

- It proves that your company has an ethical commitment, which is valued more and more by consumers.

- Ensures that you can legally claim that your products are "fair trade" (respect for all parties) and as such, gain a competitive advantage by demonstrating your ethical stance.

BENEFITS OF SMETA AUDIT

·        Implements best practices within the workplace to motivate employees and improve productivity.

·        Aims to create seamless transactions between buyers and suppliers by promoting responsible and ethical business practices in global supply chains.

·        Helps avoid audit fatigue or audit paralysis by using a unified format for audits across all platforms.

·        Get a comprehensive view of supply chain activities.

·        You create a strong brand identity and visibility while respecting the highest social standards.

·        Multiple/redundant certifications are not required as Sedex includes many of them and is recognized everywhere.

SMETA audit is offered:

    With 2 Pillars

- Labor Standards

- Health and Safety

    Additional Elements

- Universal Rights covering the UNGP

- Management Systems

- The right to work

- Sub-contracting and working at home

- Short environmental assessment

    With 4 pillars (two additional points in addition to the above points)

- Enhanced environmental assessment

- Business Ethics

ATTENTION: SMETA Sedex does not provide certificates, but only registration on the platform. The SMETA audit is planned to be done only by accredited auditors. The Audit Report is planned to be uploaded in the SMETA database system. Reports that have not been uploaded are invalid against third parties. These reports are missing the reference number.

※ BSCI

WHAT IS THE SOCIAL INITIATIVE AUDIT FOR COMPLIANCE WITH (BSCI) of AMFORI Business?

The AMFORI Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is a social initiative that aims to monitor and assess workplace standards throughout the global supply chain. There is a growing expectation that companies not only ensure that their businesses are ethically sound, but also that their suppliers demonstrate social responsibility.

An amfori BSCI audit helps a business monitor its supply chain to ensure that all suppliers treat workers ethically and legally.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CONDUCT AN AMFORI BSCI AUDIT?

There are many benefits to conducting an amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative audit of your supply chain, like:

• Ensuring that female workers throughout the work chain are treated ethically and their rights are respected, including: freedom of association, fair remuneration, health and safety, and the prohibition of child labor;

• Avoiding the negative effects of the media if it is found that your suppliers are treating workers badly;

• Increasing your reputation among consumers as an ethical company and developing a competitive advantage;

• Ethical improvement of your relations with suppliers;

ATTENTION: BSCI does not have certificates, but a report compiled by auditors accredited by AMFORI, which is uploaded to the database. Any certificate without a report uploaded to the platform has no value for third parties.

※ SA 8000

SA 8000 is a recognized world standard that provides voluntary certification regarding the respect of employees' rights. It includes the same requirements as BSCI, but supplements them with a management system identical to the EN ISO 9001 standard.

The difference of this standard from those above is that while SMETA Sedex and BSCI Amfori emphasize the uploading of the Audit report in a database of results according to the latest trends, SA8000 emphasizes the Company's certification.

※ TÜV NORD TN-Assesment

TÜV NORD TN-Assessment: TÜV NORD can conduct the audit according to the main principles and social best practices of ethical audits. The company will have a report and a registration certificate in the TÜV NORD database.

※ISO 26000

ISO 26000 gives the Company its Social Responsibility (CSR) footprint.

In 2005, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published for the first time its ISO 26000 guidelines on environmental and social governance of company management. ISO 26000 aims to provide guidance and recommendations on how to improve CSR and how to build a socially responsible organization. Companies should focus on social, environmental, legal, cultural and organizational diversity while implementing ISO 26000.

ISO 26000 IS NOT A MANAGEMENT SYSTEM STANDARD but a social responsibility guideline for which TÜV NORD can do the evaluation of the implementation.

The main topics covered by ISO 26000 are as follows:

- Organizational governance

- Human rights

- Work practices

- Environment

- Ethical operating practices

- Consumer Affairs

- Community involvement and development

ISO 26000 provides an internationally recognized and standardized way to measure your organization's CSR.
